Boys night out

The Brothers Chin 2.0 are still on their bonding tour.  Tonight, Caz made sure to include Coco in  BBQ for Dix's going away party.  Dix will be deployed, on active duty, with the Marine Corp.  He will be in California for 4 months.  Then he will be overseas in southeast Asia.  Most likely, he will be in Okinawa, Thailand, Philippines and South Korea.
The invitation was a kind gesture by Caz.  It really shows signs of personal growth.  This is extra thoughtful seeing as Caz's girlfriend is here visiting from AL.  It would be even easier to ignore his brother.
I actually had to text Caz around 11 pm.  I was happy they were out but I started getting nervous that Coco would over do it and be wiped out for graduation.  They came in not long after, laughing and yucking it up.  What a sound!

Sibling Bonding

Demi and I noticed the same thing today.  Coco and Caz were hanging out.  They were interacting positively together.  The two of them went out to play hoops together.  Caz had Coco hanging out with his friends.  They seemed to have a lot in common.  The had great discussions.  It made us both feel good.  The high school sibling rivalry, the battling, seemed to have passed.  It's the way we hoped they would be.  Family first.  You rely on the family.  We have each other's backs.  There is nothing we wouldn't do for each other.  We think they are finally getting it.

Prom 2019 Part Two

Coco is ready for round two.  It's his second year attending Prom at the rival high school.  He insisted that he needed to be dismissed early again to prepare.  Somehow, even though he is the visitor/guest, we we're hosting the after party.  You will only get a headache trying to follow teenage logic.
The plans for pictures were not unveiled until the last minute.  Why plan?  I had to miss pictures.  A friend's s uncle passed.  The memorial was scheduled for today.  The timing did allow that I could attend the memorial and then hit the red carpet.  I was happy that I could do both.
The red carpet was fun.  The Marshfield crowd was so enthusiastic.  They were all extremely supportive of everyone.  All couples, singles, groups and circumstances.  There were inspirational walks.  The event was uplifting and fun.
Demi and I had a very nice dinner after the red carpet.  We hadn't been to the Sun Tavern in quite a while.  The food was excellent.  The conversation was even better.  The two of us chatted about numerous topics.
The kids were back at the high school just after 11 pm.  Coco had to drive around a bit for pickups and dropoffs.  He and his cousin were at the house by midnight.  Coco expected more kids put in the end there were just a few.  By 2 am, it was just Coco and his cousin.  A successful night.

Mother’s Day Weekend 2019

This weekend was all about Demi.  As it should be.  Saturday was the only seasonally appropriate day, with sun and warmth.  We got a lot if work done.  The whole family put down the carpet on the deck.  The screen house was put up.  The outdoor furniture and cushions were place.  We packed all of Mother’s Day chores into 5 hours.  Then we got lobster rolls and walked the beach.  That was the best part of the afternoon.  Coco had to work, otherwise it was perfect.
Sunday had us next door for a few hours.  I have to see my mom of course.  And we got to see the Plantation Drive Chins.  It was good extended family time.  We got all afternoon together.  The weather was miserable all day.  We mode due.  Scattegories is a Chin family favorite.  We laugh a lot during this game.  We played 14 rounds.  It was so much fun.  I cooked a paleo chili.  Demi is doing a challenge at the gym.  There was a new episode of the last season of Game of Thrones.  What a weekend.  Demi was happy.  That is all that mattered.

College Comes Home

Caz is home.  I am happy he got to spend a few days in Huntsville with his girlfriend, but the drawback is flying home from Nashville.  There are only two direct flights a day from Nashville to Boston.  The evening flight lands in Boston at 11 pm.  It’s still a school night for Demi and me.  Demi slept the whole ride in.  Lucky her.
Caz actually got in early.  I went in to help with luggage.  Demi had to pull a u-ey in Everett after being told to move along.  She got back in perfect time.  Gizmo went bonkers as Caz entered the car.  We stopped at Wendy’s for our hungry son.  Then we were home.  Things just felt right.  All the Chins were back together.

DHS Prom 2019

Another year, another Prom equals another success.  I really enjoyed being on the fringe, observing Coco having a ball.  For a parent, this year's prom excelled past anything I could have hoped for.
Coco and Demi prepped upstairs.  Coco even submitted to a test run with his hair around noon.  They mapped out a shower and dressing strategy, starting at 2:30 pm.  I got a kick out of watching them execute it.  Coco still had a wet head of hear, with most of his tuxedo on when I walked past to see Demi tucking him all in.  I am pretty sure I made a Lannister Game of Thrones reference.
Coco finished earlier than expected.  I watched him pace around nervously before his date and his friends showed up.  The photo shoot entertained me immensely.  The pinning of the boutonnieres is like an Olympic sport.  So many traditional skills are becoming lost.  Tying a tie, folding a pocket square and pinning boutonnieres are almost a lost art.  Coco's date, Melissandre, smiled the entire time.  She possesses one of those energetic personalities, which really comes alive when a camera is around.  That's not a bad thing.  You need someone to be excited about pictures with teenagers.  She got the rest of them to loosen up and smile for all the parents taking pictures.  The parents appreciated having one spot for pictures.  Melissandre's dads were please with Coco as her date.  He is a good young man, who treats women with respect.
Following the Zoolander photo shoot at the house, we all raced for the red carpet at the High School.  Very well attended, parking became a premium.  I dropped off Demi with the camera, so that I could find a parking space.  As it was, I barely made it in time to see Coco and Melissandre get out of their ride and walk the red carpet.  It is a great Duxbury tradition now.  A lot of folks turn out to see the kids all dolled up.  The rides are part of the attraction too.  I can't tell you how many boats bore prom goers to the carpet.  Old classic cars, Mom and Dad's luxury vehicles and even a float were in the procession.  Volunteer parents valet these things.  The kids walk the carpet, then enter the High School to a snacks and hors d'oeuvres before boarding the buses to Gillette.  How cool is that venue?
After the Post-Prom plans were up in the air right up until the bus ride home.  Melissandre had a mandatory skating practice the next morning, so she went home.  Her friend was in the same bind, so Coco's buddy ended up going home after too.  Coco ended up going across the street at 2 am to hang with his friends.  I am so happy he did that.  This is their final run.  Their senior year, their high school careers, are coming to an end.  They have so little precious time together.  I am happy he took advantage of it.

Prom Season

It’s Prom week.  The first of two proms again for Coco.  The tux was picked up from the dry cleaners.  Coco tried on the whole monkey suit.  He got his hair cut.  The mode of transportation is  settled.  The schedule for pictures and locations has been nailed down.  It is just a waiting game now. The calm before the storm.
