Enter Sandman

Caz went to his first really epic rock show on his own.  Well, without me that is.  His girlfriend got him tickets to see Metallica in Birmingham.  He was thrilled.
He couldn’t wait to tell us about how excited he was to be going.  He was like a kid before Christmas.  His girlfriend had called to ask if it was all right because the show was on a school night. Very sweet.  Caz figured he would be fine the next day.  His first class was at 11 am.  His poor girlfriend had class at 8am.
Caz loved the set list.   They played all his favorites.  I don’t think he realized Metallica hadn’t played Birmingham in over 20 years.  He really got lucky.  So happy for him.

Determination

Coco really wanted to place out of having to take as many of his final exams for term 1, as he possibly could.  He was on a mission.  Of course, that mission came down to the wire.  He did procrastinate a bit.  Actually, a lot.  This week he spent almost every night on school work.
He spent hours constructing a Lego diorama for math.  He put a lot of effort into a Sports History paper.  This was actually a joint project.  His partner needed a 100 on it in order to place out of the final.  Coco actually calculated his odds of placing out of his exams.  The odds weren't great.  He tried to tell the odds to me but I quipped, "never tell me the odds, kid."
The Sports History project did indeed receive a 100.  His math exam is a full year class, which is exempt from placing out of finals.  In the end, Coco placed out of 4 exams.  He takes 2 in total.  Monday and Thursday, he doesn't have to go into school at all.  Here is my old man moment - That was never available to us going through DHS.  It is sort of laughable.  I know it benefits the teachers too.  It lightens the load a bit.  But still.  How does that prepare them for life after high school?
Good for Coco though.  He should be very please with himself.  I know Demi and I are.

Term 2 2019

Caz went back to Auburn today.  It’s always a bittersweet day.  I have said this before, and I will say it again.  I am happy that he loves Auburn and he is always eager to return.  But I still have a tough time saying goodbye.
Caz had been itching to go back for days.  He was more than ready.  I remember that feeling. I couldn’t wait to get back to Colby after New Years.
He is getting good at this traveling thing.  He checked in for his flight yesterday, without being reminded.  He put his boarding pass on his phone.  He packed himself (after Demi did his laundry).  He even cleaned up the living room (mostly).
Caz was ready when I came back from the gym.  He was up already.  He went to say goodbye to Demi, while I jumped in the shower.  We made himself a breakfast sandwich for the road.  We had a nice ride into the airport, despite the traffic.  It was nice conversing about college, friends and football.
I will miss him.  But he is where he belongs.

New Year’s Day 2019

Happy New Years!
What a stress free New Year’s Eve last night.  Both of the boys stayed home.  Demi and I were the ones that went out.  Not that we went buck wild.  But we stayed in Duxbury, with 6 other adults.  There were 5 little kids too, so the rowdiness factor was low for the adults.  It was so nice for Demi and me not to have to watch little kids or fret about our older children being out driving on a high risk night. Good times!
