The Playlist

Coco controlled the radio on the way home from the Celtics game.  We had a great time celebrating his birthday at the Garden.  Now he was celebrating with music.
Coco popped in his “Throwback” playlist.  The oddest collection of songs followed.  We talked about each and every one.  It was an epic ride home.  “Runaway Train” by Soul Asylum made me nostalgic for my early apartment living days.  We talked about the iconic music video it had.  Coco thought he could stump me with “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” but I nailed the artist (PM Dawn) immediately.  “Californication” was a nod to Caz.  I was really surprised by songs he had on there.  Pleasantly surprised.

Legal Adulthood

Happy 18th Birthday, Coco!

Bohemian Rhapsody

Coco, Demi and I watched Bohemian Rhapsody.  Caz saw it in theaters.  He had highly recommended it.  It lived up to the billing.
Rami Malek was fantastic.  His acting was spot on.  His body moved exactly as Freddie’s did, whether just walking or on stage.  The Live Aid scene was amazing.  I really enjoyed the banter with Coco.  He was really into the story.  He gave us a kinds of facts about the individual band members as we queued up the movie.  Each time we paused the movie, he had another fun fact.  He really liked the music too.  All around, this was a winner.

Decision 2019

Well, Coco has made his decision for college.  It’s official!  Coco will be attending the University of South Carolina.  Go Gamecocks!  He knows it is a better school for his major.  He feels like he will be happy there.  We are so proud of him The next Indiana Jones.

An Overnight

Amazing night for Demi and me.  Wine dinner.  Cottage overlooking the beach.  Good friends.  Great conversations.  We had quite a night.  How it unfolded telling Coco?  The is the best story.
Demi started getting a “feeling”, so she didn’t want to give Coco notice up front.  She worked out an elaborate plan to divulge information on a timely, need to know basis.  There was no sign of us packing beforehand.  We left dinner and gas money on the counter, after he left for school.  When Coco got home from school, he was told we were out for dinner and there was money for his dinner.  A little later on, he actually asked what time we would be home.  That is when Demi told him we were staying over.  Turns out he spent the night on XBOX and eating pizza.  So just like any other night.  But the risk was mitigated.  No shenanigans went on.

Patriots Parade 2019

Demi texted me yesterday about what I thought about Coco going to the parade with his friends.  He hadn’t said anything to either one of us.  We both thought it was a good idea.  Demi broached it with him after school.  We thought he would go with his crew.  And Coco started planning with them.  In the end, he ended up going with his prom date and her friends.  Interesting twist.
It didn’t dawn on me until this morning that Coco had never been on the T on his own.  I texted him a bunch of information during my morning commute.  I also urged him to leave earlier than planned.  The crowd was already heavy when I was headed into the city.  I made sure he knew how to get to me in the city too.  He did really well. He called and texted with questions after the parade, when they were trying to get on the T.  He and his friends bought the right ticket.  They got on the right train.  More importantly,  they had fun.  They had an experience that will last a lifetime.

Super Bowl Sunday 2019

aka Janet Jackson Appreciation Day
     Patriots vs Rams Part Deux
I admit, I was getting increasingly nervous as kickoff approached.  I am not sure if the cause was the game or that it was going to be my last one watching with one of the boys.  It had hit me days ago, that next year, I will be watching with Demi only.  Then the curve ball came.
Forty five minutes before kickoff, Coco asked if he could go to a friend’s house.  His crew was getting together to watch the big game.  There was no way to say no.  I love that he would be with his friends.  But a part of me was sad.  Demi and l offered food & snacks he could bring.  We gave him the standard warnings.  We asked him to be wary of other drivers.  He promised to text when he was leaving.  Then he was off.
At least the Patriots won.  Title number 6.  Lowest scoring Super Bowl ever.  Not exciting for the casual fan.  But cue the duck boats!  It’s time for a parade!
